Holsters
For all-day comfort and safety, you need a good stiff gun belt and hard holster. First, a gun belt is not a random leather belt nor a department store belt. It’s made for guns and spreads out the weight. And your holster must be stiff and you should be able to draw and re-holster your weapon without using a second hand.
New guys tend to buy soft belts and holsters thinking soft is comfortable. It’s actually the opposite. And a floppy holster can be unsafe and should be thrown away. And speaking of unsafe, never buy the BlackHawk Serpa holsters – even if it’s cheap. The Serpa holster is banned in most classes.
The next most common mistake is to buy a “universal fit” holster because people think, “I could use that for all my guns and save money.” But universal holsters don’t fit anything well and are often unsafe. And many are softer and floppy, so both unsafe and uncomfortable.
Make sure you get a holster that is hard, has been molded specifically for your exact gun and model, and comes from a legit company known in the industry. Avoid getting knock-off designs from Amazon or eBay. These holsters listed below are ones I’ve personally spent money on and they are great. Depending on the gun, the design, and the price, one of these companies should be able to fill your next holster need.
- Haley Incog X Holster – For Sig or Glock. Amazing, great design, excellent!
- Tier 1 Concealed – Ogden-made and excellent.
- TXC Holsters – Great design and excellent.
- G-Code – Tactical holsters and mag pouches. Excellent.
- Crossbreed – Great for Belly Bands, Liberty Bands, purse holsters, or carrying at 4 o’clock position.
- Alien Gear – Crossbreed copy design, good for carrying at 4 o’clock position.
- BlackPoint Tactical – Lots of options for lots of guns. They even make official Sig holsters.
- Com-Tac – Competition & tactical holsters for most guns.
- Bravo Concealment – Good for saving money. More basic, just comes in black, but good, cheap and fast.
- Upper Hand Holsters – Locally made, less expensive, but still customizable.
- Gunfighters, Inc – Chest holsters for hiking, fishing, or backcountry.
Mag Carriers
G-Code Mag Carriers – Always carry at least one extra magazine, and one easy way to do this is with a magazine carrier. My favorite magazine carriers are the Scorpion Soft-Shell Carriers from G-Code. Get them to fit various belts (every-day-carry belts to battle belts), chest rigs, or even stack them together (like an AR mag carrier with two pistol mag carriers). Even angle them depending on where you’re carrying them on your belt.
Holsters for Women
Women don’t wear the same clothes as men, and often find it hard to wear a good gun belt and holster. World shooting champion, Lena Miculek has teamed up with some great companies to create other ways for women to carry. Remember that “universal fit” holster are terrible, and often unsafe. You want a holster that is hard (not soft and floppy), that holds your pistol perfectly in place and safely.
- Sig Sauer – Fanny Pack for Sig Rose Pistol – You’ll need a hard, kydex holster insert with velcro on one side for the fanny pack to keep the gun from flopping around inside. You can get one made just for the Sig Rose pistol through Sig (next two links below), but you can also get other guns to fit the fanny pack by getting specific holsters with velcro from the company making them for Sig, which is Crossbreed Holsters (linked three down).
- Sig Sauer – Holster for use in Sig Rose Fanny Pack
- Crossbreed – Sig Rose Holsters
- Crossbreed – Just Holster with Velcro for Fannypack. Carry non-Sig guns in your gun fanny pack.
- Vertx – Fanny pack designed for carry. Also requires a hard velcro sided holster.
- Crossbreed – Liberty Band. Carry your favorite holster in yoga pants, or an outfit that doesn’t require pants with belt loops.
- Crossbreed – Belly Band. Carry with yoga pants, without a gun belt that requires belt loops.
Gun Belts
- Magpul – Excellent belts for every day or dressy wear, and less expensive than other options too.
- NexBelt – A ratchet system that makes them fit great. They offer dress belts for every day carry too.
- Crossbreed – More great options for daily wear.
- G-Code – Some options for daily wear, but mostly battle-belt setups.
- HaleyStrategic – Great battle-belt setups.
