Don’t Hold Your Gun Based on TV and Movies
Most people hold their guns wrong, based on how they see people hold their guns on TV shows and movies. And where does Hollywood get their info? Well it’s all based on an old grip style based on a guy with a bad elbow – the Weaver Stance.
Here’s the wrong way to hold a gun, but it’s a stock photo used a lot. The model thinks he’s holding it well, the photographer thought it was good, but everything is wrong. Notice how the body is bladed to the side, how one elbow is bent and low, how the support hand is just holding up the strong hand, how the trigger finger is too far into the trigger guard, etc. All of this means the gun will recoil more. The shooter will have to muscle the gun more and will flinch and miss more shots. And he can’t ever shoot quicker.

Short Videos Breaking Down the Best Shooting Skills
I’ve learned a lot from in-person classes. But right now, before you take a class, you can learn a lot from these videos. I didn’t create these videos, but I have organized them on this page in order to help both new and experienced shooters get the most out of them.
How should you hold your gun? The modern or isosceles grip is far more efficient. I’ve taken a few classes with Travis Haley of Haley Strategic. He’s been the best trainer I’ve spent time with, by far. His training is based on the biomechanics and how the body works, and these short videos that break down exactly how to run your handgun.

SIG ROSE – Free Online Pistol Training Videos for Women by Women
SIG SAUER and Lena Miculek (Professional Shooter and 8-time World Champion) put together a series of videos to help encourage and inspire women to take on the responsibility of their own personal safety through education, training, and community. They’ve made both an online community and a series of YouTube videos to “encourage, inspire, and grow female shooters to become more confident and comfortable.”
Even if you don’t have the SIG ROSE pistol, you can still learn from these videos. The skills and manipulations are the same for almost every pistol. First, here’s a link to the Online Rose Community. Second, here’s all the training videos on YouTube.
